What's your job about?
I worked as an Assembly Production Trainer at Allegro Microsystems Philippines Incorporation, which is a global leader in power and sensing solutions for motion control and energy-efficient systems
My role as an Assembly Production Trainer is to work with the production team and collaborate to support groups and provide efficient training to the employees. My role generally involves training new hires, cross-training operators to multi-functions, preparing training materials and creating examinations, documents revision, line auditing, track and compile collected data, writing reports and generate special instructions or procedures needed to support production set up and processes.
What's your background?
I grew up in Silang, Cavite, where I went to the local primary school and high school. I spent my free time accompanying my mother in making a living by selling street foods and vegetables on our local market while at the same time attending to my household chores. I initially graduated with a Diploma in Science in Business Management at Montessori Professional College in Cavite. I have worked on several different companies after I graduated until I finally landed at Allegro Microsystems Philippines Incorporation on which my career flourished. I started as a Production operator for 5 years and during these years, I managed to settle renovations of our small house in Silang, Cavite and even help my siblings to pursue their studies. With my faith and dedication to survive our financial difficulties, I have also put a small sari-sari store business to further help my family's needs.
After a few years, I came upon an opportunity to excel further when Allegro offered me a chance to pursue my studies while working through the AMPI FREDERICK D. REIERSEN Scholarship Program, with the support of the company, my superiors and colleagues, I was able to graduate with a degree on Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering which eventually led to my promotion as Assembly Production Trainer.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Definitely yes, anyone with different background can do my job. The only key to becoming a successful Trainer is when you have the strong motivation to learn what it takes and confidently deliver the knowledge to train/teach others to become effective and efficient in doing their assigned job. It doesn’t matter what your degree is - the focus is on the core skills you can apply to the role.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
I really enjoyed presenting to the crowd. It’s really cool that it boosts my confidence in public speaking. This even strengthens my personality and ability to participate in other activities. Another upside of my job is that I am able to improve by immersing myself in various character and career development seminars and courses.
What are the limitations of your job?
As a Trainer, I need to invest a lot of voice power to manage effective teaching. Aside from a lot of tasks to be done, I think talking too much for long hours is one of the limitations that I can consider as the training usually takes 2 – 4 hours or more talking, depending on the needs of the discussion.
