Actually, everything that I am working on since I joined Emma is something new to me. Analysing the data gathered from web traffic, creating social media posts, creating visual content, etc. are something that I am learning and willing to master soon.

What's your role at Emma like?

As a Junior Business Development Manager for the Japan market, I am responsible for the marketing activities in social media, mainly FB now. Also, I am responsible for communicating with the outside agency that is working on our Emma Japan Instagram. In addition to managing social media activities, I am doing some market research for the new products in Japan that is not yet introduced.

Currently, I am working on the FB posts and posting articles that introduced the Emma mattress. Also, conducting market research for bed frames in Japan, as we are currently planning to introduce bed frame products in the future.

What's your background?

I was born and raised in Hyogo, Japan until 6 years old, and moved to the UK and stayed for 1 year. Then I moved to Hong Kong and stayed for 5 years, graduated from an international elementary school there and came back to Japan. After coming back to Japan, I attended a school in Osaka where there were many returnees and had high-level English education and maintained my language skills after coming back. After graduating from this school, I entered Temple University and moved to Tokyo, Japan.

Since then, I have been living in Tokyo and started my career at a foreign consulting company as a new graduate. Here, I was helping foreign startups to enter the Japan market, by finding potential customers/partners, conducting market research, and so on, as well as looking for Japanese companies interested in expanding business in the US on behalf of a State Government.

After working for the previous company for a year and a bit, I got an intro from Joyce through LinkedIn that Emma is looking for someone in Japan to expand its business here. The position looked very interesting and kindly got the offer, and started working at Emma in August 2021.

What's the coolest thing about your role?

As I was interested in digital marketing and analytics, I am proud that I can be a part of growing Emma’s business in Japan, which just started. Also, trying out new posts to increase market reaction is interesting, although it is sometimes tough to prepare the right content to attract the audience.

What can you say you are proud of accomplishing at Emma?

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student...

  1. Keep up with the university classes. Many things from your classes can be useful when you graduate and start working at any company.
  2. Take breaks, university will be the last time when you have the freedom to take breaks at your own pace on the weekdays.
  3. Meet your families and friends as much as possible, it is actually hard to find some time with your mates.
