About this scholarship

Donor: The family of the late Anita Morawetz. The scholarship memorialises the late Anita Morawetz, who graduated from the University in 1962, and worked as a social worker, first in Europe, and then in Israel for some years, after which she went to America where she undertook a postgraduate degree. Her special interest was family therapy, which she continued to practise on her return to Australia in 1981.


Up to $30,000 available in total. Several scholarships offered from $1,000 to $8,500 each.

To award the scholarship to an individual or a group of individuals who are pursuing or are intending to pursue research which will contribute to the clinical practice of family therapy.

To be eligible for the award students must be currently enrolled in the Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work course and can only be awarded the scholarship in the year they will be undertaking the subject- SCWK90061 Narrative Practice and Research Synthesis (MNTCW).


Awards will be granted annually and advertised to all students entering the MNTCW as part of the application process. Applicants will complete an application form and provide details of a professional referee.

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Degree of demonstrated commitment to the clinical practice of family therapy (meaning demonstrated commitment to work with families, groups and/or communities).
  • Capacity of proposed practice-research to contribute to clinical practice in Australia in terms of originality, creativity, and/or scope.
  • Relevance of proposed practice-research to contribute to clinical practice with families, groups and communities most in need.


Students enrolling in the Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work who would like to apply for a scholarship need to complete the Anita Morawetz Scholarship application form available as part of the course application process and submit it prior to the closing date at end of November each year.



Applicants are notified of the outcome of their scholarship application during December each year.

Reporting requirements and payment instalments
Recipients must provide a report on their research to the Anita Morawetz Scholarship Committee by 31st January in the year following completion of the subject SCWK90061.

On award of the scholarship, 80% will be disbursed up-front toward the tuition fee of the subject SCWK90061. Following approval of the final research report by the committee, 20% will be disbursed directly to the scholarship recipient.
