As a Social Worker, I will use my empathy and ability to sympathise, to support and to advocate for the person; I feel that this will be my benefit to our society.

There are families and individuals all over Australia who are going through sets of circumstances. Some good and some great but some are unbelievably terrible.

Whether it is a person and their family coming to terms with a medical diagnosis, a parent who has lost a child, a family torn apart by divorce, a family coming to terms with a loved one's addiction, a family dealing with a terminal prognosis; the list goes on. What goes on in these families needs intervention. They need someone who is there and willing to put in the hard work day in, day out to ensure that everyone comes out of whatever circumstance they find themselves in feeling as strong and as powerful as possible. They need someone to listen and to act and that's what I want to do. Simple as that.

I've chosen to study a Master's Degree in Social Work as this is what I consider most important in Australian lives. I do believe that myself and every other individual has a social responsibility in their life to ensure that other people's interactions with us are of a positive manner and that we all have as much beneficial influence on society as humanly possible. As a Social Worker, I will use my empathy and ability to sympathise, to support and to advocate for the person; I feel that this will be my benefit to our society.

Working as a Radiation Therapist showed how effective a multi-disciplinary team truly is. Without the Social Workers constant support, organisation and care, I truly do believe that many of the patients would not have been able to show up for their cancer treatments. Social Workers take the time to listen, to learn and to assist in any means possible; I honestly couldn't think of a more rewarding job.
