About this course

The information on this page relates to an Advanced Coursework pathway available to current University of Sydney students enrolled in the combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws degree who are completing the requirements of the Media and Communications program.

This stream of the Bachelor of Advanced Studies will provide you with access to Advanced Coursework in your fourth year of study.

Designed to challenge you creatively and enhance your problem-solving ability through experiential learning, the year is focused on real-world project management, professional conduct, reflective practices and collaboration.

A main component of the coursework includes an internship, offering you a meaningful opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the media landscape within a professional organisation, and build valuable industry contacts before graduation.

These internships are dependent on your own ambitions and are available across an extensive range of areas, including national and international news organisations, public relations and advertising agencies, national television and radio outlets, and major print and online media.

Over the year, you'll consolidate your awareness of how critical thinking and media production are capable of mutually informing each other in practice, combining your theoretical knowledge and practical skills to work on a major interdisciplinary group project.

Working with students from other disciplines, you'll combine your different areas of knowledge to tackle authentic, complex projects developed with our external partners, to address industry issues or identify industry opportunities.

Through these experiences you'll develop a robust, professional toolkit and gain an edge as you seek professional employment after graduation.
