About this course

The Master of Teaching is a graduate entry initial teacher education program designed to prepare teachers to teach as primary teachers. The program is informed by current research into teacher knowledge and practices to develop high quality work-ready teachers. Areas of focus include: curriculum and pedagogy, assessment and reporting, Indigenous knowing in curriculum design, inclusive pedagogies, classroom management for positive learning, discipline knowledge as a specialisation, literacy and numeracy and ICT across the curriculum. Students undertake a total of 60 days supervised professional practice in schools or educational sites to ensure that theory and practice are integrated. The program is designed to maximise the repertoire of knowledge and skills that facilitate working in complex education settings. Note: The Master of Teaching is delivered through a blended/online learning model. The majority of the coursework is delivered online through the Learning Management System using a range of video tutorials, online readings, forum discussions and online modules. There is also an on-campus intensive delivered in week 3 of each semester. Students are required to attend the face-to-face intensive classes in week three of each semester for up to five-days per semester at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus. Students must be prepared to travel to this campus for these classesStudents must complete a total of 240 credit points to graduate from this course and be eligible to register with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). To be eligible to graduate students must complete supervised teaching practicum as indicated in the course structure. All applicants accepted into the course will be required  to hold a valid Working with Children (WWC) Check prior to undertaking professional placements as part of this course.
