What's your job about?
Bayer Business Services Philippines Inc. is the shared service hub of Bayer. Bayer is the mother company that focuses on creating products related to health care and agriculture anchored on Science & Technology. I am under the BBSPI-Source to Pay-Invoice Processing Team. My daily tasks revolve around verifying, analyzing, and posting of invoices in accordance with the company’s accounting procedures. I ensure that issues affecting the payment of invoices are resolved on time. I also participate in discussions to improve the quality of processing to promote a positive relationship with our customers.
One interesting part of our job is it enables us to be creative and resourceful in ensuring that the accounts we are handling, are correctly recorded in the company’s book of accounts. In addition, there are a lot of applications and hi-tech tools to assist us with our tasks, an example is the translation tool. We also have optical character recognition where the system reads whats on the invoice and plot it in the system
What's your background?
I grew up in the province of Batangas known for their barako coffee. I am an only child, but I have a lot of cousins. As a child, my mother describes me as someone who never runs out of the question. I was just so curious about what is going on around me.
In grade school, I enjoy being a girl scout. We would go hiking and camping. I also love reading books. I started reading children’s books. Being an avid reader helped me in graduating with honours in grade school and high school.
In college, I took up BS Accountancy and I was a university scholar. College overwhelmed me with school and extra-curricular activity serving as VP for JPIA at our university. I graduated but I didn’t qualify for Latin Honors, which I really strived for. Nevertheless, I am thankful for the people who helped me be on the right track. Based on my experiences, I learned that self-awareness and planning are important.
When the pandemic struck, I was reviewing for the board exams. I decided to stop because I want to work for my family. My first job is an accounting clerk in a local bookkeeping and tax compliance office. But I left. I wanted a company that would value me. I am beyond blessed to be here in Bayer because not only does the company support you in becoming a better employee but also hone you to be the best version of yourself without sacrificing your health physically or mentally.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Of course! Anybody with a curious mind and passion for learning can do what I am doing right now, even if they have a different course or degree. One should have the eagerness and drive to learn the technicalities of processing invoices. Moreover, a person who is a critical thinker has a higher advantage. In addition to this, Source-to-Pay built an incubation team to ensure support in terms of quality training and enculturation is afforded to new joiners.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
Working for BBSPI, I love that I can associate my degree and I believe that we are the front-liners of the whole accounting process. I love how we process these invoices. Maybe, it’s a small task but when combined it could greatly impact the whole organization. It would be the basis for decision making.
Additionally, I have experience analyzing the KPI of our team and presenting it. It was challenging but it is beneficial. It enlightened me to be more thorough as an invoice processor. I also believe that from these mistakes we can be more efficient and effective with our tasks.
What are the limitations of your job?
We are not required to work on weekends unless there is a high volume of invoices. it is not physically demanding but it demands our focus. We should be a focus on the processing to avoid committing errors. The biggest limitation is one’s discipline and mental strength for days when you come across complex invoices. One should be curious about the effects of a single posting on the system and the whole accounting process.
