Pros & Cons

  • The mentorship provided by the people I got to work with. Additionally, I appreciated the efficiency and guidance of the program coordinators.
  • The compensation of Meralco is the best thing I can share about my company.
  • The people are all very welcoming, supportive and values each and every one. The environment around and inside the building is also great.
  • The team dynamic, especially in our branch of the business center, is very strong and welcoming. I never felt like an intern there due to the treatment they gave me. I also have the chance to experience an improved intern program that provides extraordinary activity, which encourages us to explore and still be creative in our respective work departments.
  • My experience as an intern within this esteemed organization provided an invaluable platform for learning and growth. During my tenure, I had the privilege of working closely with my supervisor, gaining profound insights into the evolving landscape of microgrid technology within the distribution sector. This experience fostered a profound comprehension of microgrid dynamics, shedding light on the key players shaping the industry's trajectory. What truly captivated me was the unwavering dedication of the Business Development Team, whose meticulous research and development efforts left an indelible mark on my understanding. Furthermore, the guidance and mentorship from my supervisors were exceptional. Their hands- on approach in imparting knowledge about Business Development and the intricacies of the microgrid industry were truly inspiring.
  • Among the facets of Meralco that struck me most profoundly was the uncompromising commitment to exceptionally high standards, which, as an intern, initially presented a culture shock. The weight of expectations bore down, creating an overwhelming atmosphere.
  • Sometimes, the camaraderie and work ethic devolve into complacency, however there is still a level of accountability amongst other personnel.
  • The worst thing about working at the company is there is a lack of communication sometimes.
  • I think the career progression may seem to be slow.
  • The distance from home and would like more f2f activities between interns.

Since the inception of my college journey, I harbored a fervent aspiration to become part of Meralco due to their unwavering dedication to the betterment of the community and the environment. This admiration grew even more profound when I discovered their strategic pivot towards renewable energy, diverging from conventional distribution utilities. Meralco's resolute commitment to environmental sustainability and community welfare aligns perfectly with my long-standing aspirations.

Overall, the company has a very positive and friendly atmosphere. There is definitely a good work-life balance dynamic. We are encouraged to also take breather when we experience an info overload. There is a clear organizational structure and hierarchy, though this did not divide people. The dynamics remained open for collaboration and teamwork. It was very easy to socialize among colleagues as the people in the office are the first to pull you into a conversation.

Diversity

Diversity
There is a good diverse team in Meralco, I'd say that their is a somewhat equal amount of female to male workers as well as interns. I was able to see plenty of women managers, and saw the maternity leave policy in effect for one employee in our department.

My daily work consists of typical Filipino business center desktop job tasks like excel macro creation, powerbi report creation and insights on their data. Which makes it quite analytically heavy but my supervisor and the team didn't pressure me to finish quickly, instead they told me to work at my own pace which I really appreciate.

In stark contrast to the rigid dress code enforced by educational institutions, where strict adherence to prescribed school uniforms is mandatory, Meralco adopted a refreshing approach with no specific dress code. The only requirement was to wear attire that adhered to standards of decency. This newfound sartorial freedom was a breath of fresh air for me, as I relished the opportunity to express my personal style through a diverse array of outfits, a stark departure from the monotony of school uniforms that had left me feeling stifled and yearning for change.

My experience has taught me that commencing one's career in a prestigious company may not always be the ideal path. It often makes more sense to gather valuable experiences in entry- level to mid-level organizations before stepping into the realm of high standards and expectations. Furthermore, my time at Meralco unveiled the significance of mastering various software tools not typically covered in academic settings. An illustrative example is Helioscope, a software tailored for designing and crafting solar power systems in specific locations. This exposure broadened my skill set in a practical and real-world context, underscoring the significance of adaptability and the ability to acquire new software proficiencies.
