Can I Apply?

To be considered for this course, you must meet the entry requirements.

  • At least 18 years of age
  • VCE or completion of Year 12 (or overseas equivalent)
  • Individuals whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 or equivalent. IELTS 7 and above is preferred.
  • Demonstrated level of spoken and written English upon completion of a Literacy and Numeracy assessment at Kangan Institute (details below)

Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Pre-Requisite Requirement

The first step in enrolling is completing a Literacy and Numeracy assessment on campus or online. This is a Government requirement to access eligibility for all students.

All prospective students who have completed their Year 12 VCE or have attained a Certificate 4 qualification and above in Australia will be exempted from completing the LLN (numeracy component) assessment.

How Will I Be Selected?

Selection process

All applicants will be asked to complete a pre-training task (Literacy and Numeracy task) to demonstrate their suitability in the TESOL industry. Applicants will need to achieve a level of competency before being accepted into the course.

Non-native English speakers are expected to demonstrate an IELTS score or equivalency of 6.5.

Where and how can I study?

Venue: Docklands campus

Type of delivery: face-to-face

Components: Practicum and Observation of ESL classes during weekdays (8.30 am - 2.30 pm)

Class times: 5.30 pm-8.30 pm ( weeknights) or 9.00 am -4.00 pm ( Saturdays )

Frequency: 2 nights/week (Monday and Wednesday) or 1 Saturday per week

*Duration: 23 weeks of delivery + additional time required to complete work placement

Assessments:

Students in this course are expected to undertake teaching practice which involves teaching and observation of classes, be involved in written assignments ( individual and group work ), presentations and attain a competency in written tasks.

*Self-study is expected as materials are available online and in core text.

This is a skill set covering the fundamental requirements for servicing, diagnosing and repairing faults, and retrofitting and modifying air conditioning and HVAC systems of vehicles in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. Generally, students will be qualified mechanics / Auto electricians studying Air conditioning to attain their refrigerant handling accreditation.

How Will I Be Selected?

This is a skill set covering the fundamental requirements for servicing, diagnosing and repairing faults, and retrofitting and modifying air conditioning and HVAC systems of vehicles in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. Generally, students will be qualified mechanics / Auto electricians studying Air conditioning to attain their refrigerant handling accreditation.

The skill set may only be undertaken in addition to or as part of one of the following:

  • AUR20216 Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology or equivalent
  • AUR20416 Certificate II in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR21416 Certificate II in Automotive Cooling System Technology or equivalent
  • AUR30316 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR30416 Certificate III in Agricultural Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR30616 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR31116 Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR31216 Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology or equivalent
  • AUR31716 Certificate III in Forklift Technology or equivalent

Can I Apply?

To be eligible to attend this course, you must work in a VicRoads accredited Licenced Vehicle Tester business (as specificity authorise to test vehicle category.

Prior to being accepted to attend this course, you will be required to sit a online assessment to assess your Language, Literacy Numeracy (LLN).

You must also:

  • be a qualified motor mechanic with light vehicle experience to VicRoads requirements
  • hold a current Driver Licence

if you are currently not working in a VicRoads accredited Licenced Vehicle Tester (LVT) business or the LVT business is currently yet to have category, you will need to contact the VicRoads Vehicle Safety & Compliance Department and provide us with a letter from VicRoads which allows you to undertake the course.

Can I Apply?

Recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. An interview with teaching staff will commence as part of the enrolment process.

Applications from mature-aged students with work experience in a related field are encouraged.

Students applying for the VCE Vocational Major Certificate should have completed Year 10 and must be at least 16 years of age. Please note this is a high school program run in TAFE and typically caters for students between 16 - 19 years of age.
