Having a wide scope of work while also having to start initiatives and processes from scratch may be challenging, but it’s also what gives me the opportunity to create an impact both for Emma and my growth!

What's your role at Emma like?

Emma is essentially a sleep brand focusing on sleep tech products and services and other innovations which aim to improve sleep. My area of focus is global employer branding and campus recruiting, so tasks on my end typically differ from day-to-day as they tend to be ad hoc. Some examples would be to partner up with organizations and institutions to attend external events, projects, and other partnerships, to work on communication materials where needed, and to execute different projects and initiatives which help boost Emma’s branding as an employer. Every day is different and quite fun!

What's the coolest thing about your role?

My role is highly dynamic, and, as a result, there’s a lot I get to learn. In the past few months, taking on global employer branding projects has brought me to self-study basic coding, learn how to use a content management system, understand how to create brand strategies and how to position brands according to those, and even developing my creative intuition and judgment. Having a wide scope of work while also having to start initiatives and processes from scratch may be challenging, but it’s also what gives me the opportunity to create an impact both for Emma and my growth!

What can you say you are proud of accomplishing at Emma?

One project I’m proud of having led so far at Emma is the ongoing development and production for our revamped careers website. It was a relatively rushed handover of responsibilities to me, but there’s been a lot of progress that we’ve been seeing so far across the different phases – be it on the user interface, design, technology, and infrastructure of the website itself, or on the production of the content which will be used to bring the website to life. I was able to learn a little bit about coding, the logic and structure to efficiently use content management systems, and how to manage different stakeholders to better manage a project.

What’s the toughest part of your role?

What I would define as my biggest challenges with the role would be the workload and the breadth of work. Because Emma does embody that start-up mindset and employs agility in its work, there are typically lots of responsibilities for me to take on, and several projects I’d have to own. It also entails a lot of thinking and strategizing before making decisions and executing initiatives because some things, I’d have to start from scratch. But it’s the same amount of agility and ownership I get to experience and have that invigorates me working at Emma!
