Each day presents an opportunity for creative problem-solving, whether from a tactical or strategic perspective. The multifaceted nature of the Supply Chain allows for continuous exploration and involvement in various aspects of the process.

What's your job about?

I oversee the order management and fulfillment of orders from Marketplace and Retail channels for the Australian market at Emma. Whether you place an order in physical stores such as OMF or on online marketplaces like Woolies, it is my responsibility to ensure that you receive your order timely and completely so that you can get the best sleep experience to #AwakenYourBest.

What's your background?

I grew up in Gensan, a coastal city south of the Philippines, where life's pace is slower than it is now. I completed my primary and secondary education in the same city and explored what I wanted to do in life. I want things faster! With the desire for adventure, I moved to Laguna, a city south of the capital, to pursue independence, discover a new life, and obtain my degree in Industrial Engineering.

During university, I ventured into various experiences—succeeding, failing, competing both locally and internationally, and taking on leadership roles in a national organization.

After numerous endeavours, I found my career path in Supply Chain. Commencing as a Management Trainee in a logistics company four years ago, I gained exposure to various facets of the discipline. This exposure eventually led me toward Supply Chain Analytics, Operations, and Strategy. Following my graduation in the program, I spent a year working for the largest e-commerce company in the Philippines before securing my current role at Emma. These opportunities have allowed me to further expand my knowledge in Omnichannel Operations.

Having been with Emma for a year now, I find myself still accelerating towards a future full of possibilities! But always, I remind myself to buckle up and enjoy journey.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Of course! One of the recruiting principles in Emma is looking into one’s potential. As an operations manager role, possessing a background in market and operational logistics processes is crucial. Equally important is embracing the Emma DNA of being agile, especially when working in a scale-up environment where rapid changes are the norm.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

What I find most gratifying is witnessing the weekly improvement of my Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) resulting from our daily work in operations. Being able to engage in improvement projects that enhance our customer experience is particularly fulfilling. Each day presents an opportunity for creative problem-solving, whether from a tactical or strategic perspective. The multifaceted nature of the Supply Chain allows for continuous exploration and involvement in various aspects of the process.

What are the limitations of your job?

Working with a scaleup company presents certain challenges, particularly in capacity building. Specifically, on the tech support side, addressing operational issues can be demanding, requiring the development of workarounds and individualized processing. Additionally, due to limited tech support, implementing necessary features to enhance business functionality may be time-consuming. Often, manual interventions are introduced into the process to bridge any gaps.

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student...

Here’s some advice I’d give to the student me:

  • Build your experience. Cultivate your experience by immersing yourself in various work industries and organizations. This exposure helps you identify in-demand skills, find what resonates with you, and build a robust professional network.
  • Know your resources. Familiarize yourself with available resources. Regularly consult your department, college, and university for opportunities such as online courses or international exposures that can enrich your experience and expertise. These resources may be harder to access post-graduation.
  • Enjoy the journey! After ticking off your checklist and devising a clear game plan, remember to occasionally have fun. Youth is fleeting, so make the most of it.
